Ruto's Bold Move: What He'll Do for Raila to Secure AUC Victory
"I expected them to say a 'BIG NO', I don't know the reason for them saying yes, I am surprised." He began yesterday's press call at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in their Old Treasury Building, Harambee Ave., based in Nairobi.
Kenya's second premier, as we all know, has expressed interest in vying for the AU's Secretariat position; and the African Union Commission's (AUC) Chair role in the upcoming elections that will see Chad's and current incumbent Moussa Faki Mahamat vacate the AU Office Complex in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, after serving two terms that began in March 2017.
According to Kenyans, Odinga is the favourite to take that position, but it doesn't come uncontested, there are at least three hopefuls from the African Eastern region that have too, renewed their interests for the same 'cake' aspired by Raila that he seeks to eat as 'whole'.
Well, to cement his win, several procedures and activities need to be in place, for example; huge and undivided support from the Head of State, In our case, William Ruto has shown nothing but the most support for his longtime political friend.
Here is what the state will be extending to Odinga's team, according to Musalia.
While at Musalia Mudavadi's wing in the Foreign Affairs docket, the government came up with a campaign tool called the Secretariat.
"Odinga's candidacy campaigns will now be led by the State and the created Secretariat will work closely with Odinga Consultation team.
It will prepare all the briefs for use by the candidate, develop campaign materials, including a digital presence, and prepare for the public debate to be broadcast live for African citizens.
The team is firming up preparatory and application documents together with the requisite translation of the resume into 6 languages: Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, French, English, and Kiswahili.
Further submission preparations will be made by the end of June, ahead of the deadline for regional submission set for August 6, 2024. Public debates will be held 6 months before the election date.
Raila welcomed the move, noting that he is willing to work closely with his respective teams to help him achieve his monumental quest.
